The Southern Illinois Miners (24-19) beat the Joliet Slammers 7-1 on Friday at Rent One Park, Marion, IL after a four-run explosion in the sixth inning.
The Joliet Slammers (18-25) were ahead early but they ultimately surrendered the lead for good. The Joliet Slammers led until the fourth inning, but the Southern Illinois Miners took the lead back on a two-run single by Phil Butler.
Butler racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He tripled in the second inning and singled in the fourth and sixth innings.
The Joliet Slammers had no answer for Blake Nation, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Nation gave up just two hits, allowed one earned run, walked four and struck out seven during his seven innings of work.
Evan Anundsen ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fifth loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked three, struck out two, and allowed five runs.
