The Joliet Slammers (12-19) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 3-1 to the Gateway Grizzlies (20-10) on Friday.
While the Joliet Slammers led until the eighth inning, the Gateway Grizzlies worked their way back and took the lead on an RBI single by Jet Butler.
JaVaun West got the win for the Gateway Grizzlies thanks to 10 strikeouts. West allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks over seven innings.
Despite the loss, the Joliet Slammers' Matt Dillon dominated the Gateway Grizzlies' batters, giving up zero runs and striking out 10.
Chase Doremus (1-2) took the loss for the Joliet Slammers. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
