The Southern Illinois Miners top the Frontier Greys in back-and-forth affair, 5-4

The Southern Illinois Miners (9-6) and the Frontier Greys (6-9) passed the lead back and forth four times on Friday at Rent One Park, Marion, IL, but in the end the Southern Illinois Miners pulled out a 5-4 win over the Frontier Greys.

The Southern Illinois Miners held off the Frontier Greys, as the Frontier Greys were unable to overcome a two-run fourth inning deficit.

The Frontier Greys scored one run in the sixth on a solo home run by Tyler Kolodny. Despite their efforts, the Frontier Greys couldn't get over the hump.

It was a good day at the plate for the Southern Illinois Miners' Gerardo Avila. Avila went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

The Frontier Greys' lineup had no answer for Brandon Cunniff. Cunniff held the Frontier Greys hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.

Blake Nation improved to 2-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Southern Illinois Miners. He allowed four runs over five innings. Nation struck out three, walked two and gave up four hits.

Tyler Vaske ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just three innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed five runs.
