Andrew Loynaz will make his SteepleCats debut this summer after wrapping up his junior season for the University of South Florida Bulls. The Davie, Florida native made a big transition from Broward College in Miramar to the Bulls’ pitching staff where he made a nice first impression for manager Lelo Prado. He has steadily improved in each of his three seasons in college baseball.

In 2011, Loynaz made eleven appearances for a Bulls team that finished the season in 9th place in the 12-team Big East, including a sub-500 conference mark of 13-14. He took home an 0-1 record with a 4.38 ERA, averaging an inning and a half per outing. In 24.2 innings of duty, Loynaz allowed 26 hits while issuing 14 walks and 17 strikeouts. Collectively, opposing hitters managed a .271 batting average against him. His quick delivery from the stretch proved tricky for men on base, and only three baserunners attempted a steal on him all season (one caught). He also averaged a strikeout per inning in 12 innings against Big East teams.
