Pollorena was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 23rd round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft from Mississippi State University.  He spent two season with the Rangers organization posting a 2-4 record and a 2.65 ERA in 34 games of relief.  While with Mississippi State Pollorena pitched in 58 games making 22 starts with a 17-9 record and a 3.86 ERA including 117 strikeouts and 62 walks.  Pollorena enjoyed a stellar freshman season in 2010 at Marion (Ala.) Military Institute.  He was honored as the 2010 Alabama Community College Conference Player of the Year while compiling an 11-2 record with a 1.77 earned run average.  He also started in the outfield, putting up a .396 batting average with two home runs, 27 RBI.  In high school Pollorena was a four-year dual position standout at Laredo's United High School.  He was coached by J.J. Gomez.  He was named a two-time Texas Class 5A All-State performer.  His senior season he posted a 10-3 record with three saves and a 1.27 earned run average and limited opposing hitters to a .199 batting average.  He also tossed 11 complete games in 16 mound appearances, helping lead the Longhorns to their fourth consecutive district championship.  Besides pitching in high school Luis also played outfield, starring at the plate with a .442 batting average, nine doubles, four triples, two home runs, and 36 runs scored in 30 games.  He also stole 26 bases in 30 attempts and was named team MVP twice.  Pollorena, a Laredo, Texas native had childhood leukemia and actually died for a minute or so at the age of eight before he came back to life from what he calls an act of god.
