Muldowney brings four seasons of affiliated baseball experience and a career 3.37 minor-league ERA to the Wild Things. The Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania native began his college baseball career at Duke University before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh. In 2005, Muldowney went 7-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 83.1 innings of work at Pittsburgh and struck out 99 batters in 82.2 innings of work in 2006, winning five games.

The Chicago Cubs selected Muldowney in the eighth round of the 2006 MLB Entry Draft and assigned him to the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League where he posted a 2.89 ERA in 43.2 innings of work.

In 2007 Muldowney split time between the Arizona Cubs of the Arizona League and the Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League, where he combined to win two games with 26 strikeouts in 25.1 innings for the two teams. He started 2008 with the Chiefs before being promoted to the Daytona Cubs of the Florida State League where he went 5-3 with a 2.98 ERA.

Muldowney spent 2009 again with the Arizona Cubs and the Daytona Cubs before joining the Wild Things in 2010.
