David Palms returns for his second season in Newport after helping lead the Gulls to the 2009 NECBL Championship.  In his first summer in Newport, David was a heavily relied upon member of the pitching staff, appearing in 10 games and starting 8.  He went 2-3 with a 3.59 ERA, striking out 34 in 47.2 innings, and allowing batters to hit just .244 against him.  A Rhode Island native and graduate of Bishop Hendricken, David struggled in 2010 after two outstanding years at Princeton.  In 10 games in 2010 (9 starts) he went just 1-6 with a 6.36 ERA.  However, in 2009 in 10 games (7 starts) he went 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA while holding batters to a .253 batting average and in 2008 he appeared in 14 games, all in relief, going 2-2 with a 3.23 ERA and striking out 32 in 30.2 innings pitched.  David was born to David and Jackie Palms and has one younger sister, Danielle.  David was also a high school teammate of Gulls infielder Dan Gamache.
