A Starkville native who is committed play for his hometown Mississippi State Bulldogs after a stay at Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Owen will join future MSU teammate Brock Tapper with the Bats this summer. A catcher who grew up as a youngster attending games at Dudy Noble Field, Owen is having a strong sophomore campaign for the Tigers, cracking a team-high 11 home runs while also leading in RBI with 54 while hitting .261 with a .979 OPS in 46 games (153 at bats). He had a two homer game against Holmes Community College on April 18.  As a freshman last year, Owen batted .360 with 10 home runs, six doubles, one triple and 37 RBI in 37 games. Defensively, he threw out 15 of 33 baserunners on the year, had just two errors and was named the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year nationally and a Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner.
