A key part of the Scarlet Knights’ bullpen in his second full season after redshirting in 2021, Portnoy was 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA and one save over his first 30.1 innings of the 2023 season (19 appearances), striking out 26 while holding opponents to a .208 average. He struck out seven over his first three outings, two of which came against teams who have a member of the SwampBats on them (George Mason, Boston

College), and has 12 appearances without giving up a run overall (10 of which were longer than an inning). In his first two years (including 2022), Portnoy began 6-1 with a 3.56 ERA in 55.2 innings, striking out 46 and holding opposing batters to a .188 batting average. He pitched three times in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament, including a scoreless inning with two K against Indiana in the semifinals.
