Rob Calabrese is in his fourth professional season and first with the ThunderBolts in 2021. He was acquired by the Bolts on January 6, 2020 to complete a trade that sent Jake Welch to the Evansville Otters. Calabrese's pro career began in 2017, when the San Francisco Giants made him their tenth round pick in the Amateur Draft. He played two seasons with the Giants, peaking at Class A Augusta. In 99 total games, he batted .220 with a .312 on-base percentage and six home runs. His independent career began in Evansville in 2019, when he hit .257 with ten homers.
Rob attended UIC and hit .294 over three years there. In 2015, he was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team. As a senior, he was named Horizon League Player of the Year and was selected to several All-America teams, hitting .353 with eight homers, 23 doubles and 53 RBIs over 56 games. He went to high school at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, New York.
