The Wichita Wingnuts survive the Sioux Falls Pheasants 3-2 thanks to Ortiz's late-game heroics

Wilberto Ortiz brought home the go-ahead run to give the Wichita Wingnuts (44-30) the lead in the eighth inning, as the Wichita Wingnuts hung on to beat the Sioux Falls Pheasants (34-40) 3-2 on Sunday.

With the score tied at one, Ortiz came to the plate and homered.

The Wichita Wingnuts were led by Ortiz's hitting. Ortiz went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the sixth inning and homered in the eighth inning.

The Wichita Wingnuts would not relinquish the lead as the Sioux Falls Pheasants were unable to weather a two-run eighth inning deficit.

The Sioux Falls Pheasants scored one run in the ninth on a solo home run by Reggie Abercrombie. Still, the Sioux Falls Pheasants couldn't draw even.

Josh Lowey got the win for the Wichita Wingnuts thanks to nine strikeouts. Lowey allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk over seven innings.

Peter Gehle (6-6) took the loss for the Sioux Falls Pheasants. He lasted just 7 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
