An impressive effort by Alex De Leon carried the Southern Illinois Miners (32-14) to a 13-3 win in eight innings over the Florence Freedom (16-30) on Wednesday at UC Health Stadium.
De Leon rocked the Florence Freedom with two home runs. De Leon went 2-3 in the game with four RBIs and three runs scored. De Leon homered in the third and sixth innings.
Eleven runs in the first three innings helped the Southern Illinois Miners blow out the Florence Freedom. A two-run home run by Vin Guglietti and an RBI double by Steve Marino during the first inning and a single by Julius Gaines, , a double by Shane Kennedy, , an RBI single by Nolan Earley, and in the second inning fueled the Southern Illinois Miners' offense early.
The Florence Freedom were led by Collins Cuthrell's hitting. Cuthrell went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning.
Jarett Miller got the win, running his season record to 3-2. He allowed three runs over seven innings. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered eight hits.
Patrick McGrath couldn't get it done on the hill for the Florence Freedom, taking a loss. He allowed 13 runs in six innings, walked three and struck out one.
