Gabriel Montero collected three hits as the Regina Red Sox (1-0) took home a 5-3 victory over the Yorkton Cardinals (0-1) at Currie Field on Sunday.

He singled in the third, seventh, and eighth innings.

Tommy Lay allowed one earned run, six hits and no walks while striking out three over seven innings of work.

Kody Rock was effective even in defeat, mowing down six the Regina Red Sox batters and allowing three runs.

Zach Mihic racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Yorkton Cardinals. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Jeremy Sylvester got the win for the Regina Red Sox. He allowed one run over one inning. Sylvester struck out one, walked none and gave up two hits.

Aidan Goodall (0-1) took the loss for the Yorkton Cardinals. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
