Mendez's single propels the Southern Illinois Miners past the Washington Wild Things, 10-6

Nine first-inning runs helped the Southern Illinois Miners (33-26) to a 10-6 win over the Washington Wild Things (27-32) at Rent One Park, Marion, IL on Friday.

Jason Ganek racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He singled in the first and third innings.

The Washington Wild Things couldn't get anything going as long as John Colella was on the mound. The Washington Wild Things managed just one hit off of Colella, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during his two innings of work.

Shain Stoner had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the fourth and sixth innings.

Dayne Quist got his sixth win for the Southern Illinois Miners despite allowing six runs over five innings. Quist struck out two, walked one and gave up eight hits.

Zach LeBarron (3-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in one-third of an inning, walked one and struck out none.
