The red-shirt senior is coming off a sensational spring, raking 76 hits in just 48 games for an impressive .388 batting average.  Mata led the team with 23 doubles, and ranked second on the high-powered Lions offense in several offensive categories, including average, runs scored (50), hits (76), runs batted in (55), and home runs (9).  Thanks to those stellar stats, Mata was named to the All-South Region Second Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) this year.  From February 27th through March 22nd, Mata picked up at least one hit in 15 of his 16 starts, with 11 multi-hit games during that tear.  The right fielder capped his productive month with a 4-for-4 performance against Webber International, including two doubles, one triple, one homer, and seven RBIs in a 13-9 win.
