The Grizzlies acquired Sechler, 23, in a trade with the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association on June 1, 2015. The southpaw spent two seasons in the Atlanta Braves minor league system prior to joining Sioux Falls in 2015.

The Santa Barbara, California native made 15 appearances for the GCL Braves in the Gulf Coast League, posting a 1-2 record and 3.26 ERA.

Sechler was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 19th round of the 2013 MLB Draft after one season at California State University. The left-hander went 7-3 in 2013 with a 2.83 ERA in 15 starts. Sechler also spent time at Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Allan Hancock JC.
