Darren joins the Bluefish for his Atlantic League debut during his 10th season of professional baseball. The right-hander last pitched in the affiliated ranks in 2013 as a member of the Oakland Athletics organi-zation. In 29 appearances, mainly with Triple-A Sacramento, he collected 40 strikeouts in 45.0 innings of work.

The 28-year was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 18th round of the 2005 amateur draft. He spent five years with the Phillies, before making his debut in Indy ball with Fargo-Moorhead of the Northern League in 2010. The Florida-native only made four appearances with Fargo-Moorhead when he was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers. After two campaigns with the Brewers at their Double-A level, where he posted 2.75 ERA in 91 games, he was traded to the Athletics prior to the 2013 season. In 216 career appearances (78 starts), Byrd owns a 3.78 ERA with 32 wins and 494 strikeouts over the course of 654.0 innings of work.
