Making his second appearance in the NECBL after joining the Holyoke Blue Sox last summer, Hawaii sophomore Scott Squier will change allegiances and join the SteepleCats for the 2013 season.
After having an immediate impact for the Blue Sox pitching staff in 2012, Squier should need little time to adjust to life in the Berkshires, and his pedigree at Hawaii should make him a candidate for the starting rotation. As a sophomore, the southpaw Squier has struck out 45 while walking only 15 over a span of 11 appearances and eight starts heading into the final week of the regular season. Squier has limited opponents to a .234 average against him and owns a 3.44 ERA on the year.
A graduate of Greenway High School, Squier earned Arizona all-state honors in back-to-back years and was named to the All-Region team twice en route to being tabbed the 2011 Pitcher of the Year for his league.
The son of Scott and Kelly Squier, Scott has one brother and intends to major in business. He was a 2011 19th Round selection in the MLB Draft coming out of high school.
