Vasami returns for his second stint with the Bears, having played both as a position player and pitcher for a stint in the 2010 season. The Mamaroneck, NY native went to Notre Dame for one season, then transferred to Elon College in North Carolina, where he flourished, batting .322 with 14 homers and 57 RBI in 2006 and .320 with five homers and 46 RBI in 2007, when he was drafted in the 39th round by the Colorado Rockies. Vasami spent three years in the Rockies’ organization, serving as a catcher, first baseman and third baseman and also experimented as a pitcher. He began the 2010 season with Newark, getting 18 at-bats as a player and pitching in 14 games, posting a 7.65 ERA. He ended 2010 with the New Jersey Jackals, where he had a 3-1 record and a 4.63 ERA in eight games and began the 2011 season with the Jackals, pitching in six starts, posting a 2-2 record with a 7.27 ERA. Vasami also earned a win against the Bears June 8, pitching 5 1/3 scoreless innings. Signed by Newark June 27, 2011 after gaining his release from the Jackals.
