Austin Ver Steeg begins his journey in professional baseball with the RedHawks in 2021. A 2020 graduate of Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.), Ver Steeg was a four-year letterman for head coach Chris Coste and the Cobbers in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), making 27 appearances (23 starts) over his four-year career in the maroon and gold, compiling a career 12-8 record and 2.14 ERA in 142.2 innings while recording 117 strikeouts and 38 walks. He went 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA in three starts and 18 innings in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. At the plate, Ver Steeg hit .254 with 81 hits, 62 runs scored, 43 RBI, 2 home runs, and 1 triple in 108 games (319 at-bats) over four seasons.

Ver Steeg earned back-to-back all-region and MIAC All-Conference honors in 2018 and 2019. He majored in healthcare management and long term care at Concordia. Ver Steeg is the third Cobber to sign with the RedHawks since the start of the 2019 season, joining Cole Christenson and Alec Sames. The righty led the MIAC in ERA as a junior, recording a 1.41 earned runs average that season. His junior campaign was arguably his best season as a Cobber. He struck out 43 batters in eight starts and held opposing batters to a .194 average in 44.2 innings pitched. Ver Steeg was also named ABCA Midwest All-region as a sophomore. The Glenwood, Minn. native played high school baseball for Minnewaska Area H.S. and played town ball for Starbuck in 2020, helping lead the team to the Region 4C championship game.
