Serruto’s selection by the Reds in the 22nd Round is the highest pick of any player on the 2019 Roster. He grew up just 20 minutes from Rutgers in Short Hill, New Jersey and was a three-sport athlete setting records on the diamond, gridiron and wrestling mats. Serruto left Milburn High as the school’s all-time passing leader which led to Essex County Player of the Year honors to add to his All- American status in baseball and ranking as the top catcher in the Garden State. Serruto threw out a staggering 66.6% of baserunners that tried to swipe a bag against him this spring. Millburn High Baseball Head Coach Brian Chapman said: “Defensively, he’s just off the charts, to the point where there’s not even anyone I could compare him to that I have either coached or coached against, especially his throwing.” In his final two years of high school baseball, Serruto threw out over 60% (23/38) of players that attempted to steal on him.
