Although the Boston Red Sox selected Joven after a successful JUCO career at the College of the Sequoias (Visalia, CA) he chose to attend Mizzou for his final two collegiate seasons. Tiger Head Coach Steve Bieser was certainly happy the southpaw didn’t sign a professional contract as Joven’s 22 appearances were the most of any Tiger pitcher this spring. His most impressive outing came against Murray State on March 19 when he surrendered just one hit while striking out 10 in 7.2 innings pitched. Joven tallied double digit strikeouts a second time, this time doing so in just five innings of work against St. Louis University on April 2. Prior to Missouri, Joven posted a 9-2 record with a 3.25 ERA, striking out 119 batters in 88.2 innings pitched during his sophomore season at College of the Sequoias.
