Boxscore | Game Recap | Boxscore Text Version | Gamelive Version

The Winnipeg Goldeyes survive the Lincoln Saltdogs 7-2 thanks to de Caster's late-game heroics

Story by Narrative Science.

Yurendell de Caster drove in the go-ahead run to give the Winnipeg Goldeyes (33-22) the lead in the seventh inning, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes hung on to beat the Lincoln Saltdogs (22-34) 7-2 on Monday.

Ridge Carpenter singled to start the seventh. He then went from first to second on a single by Zach Baldwin. Finally, de Caster came to the plate with the score tied at one in the seventh inning, and doubled, scoring Carpenter and Chris Roberson.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes were led by a flawless day at the dish by Carpenter, who went 3-3 against the Lincoln Saltdogs' pitching. He singled in the third, seventh, and eighth innings.

The Lincoln Saltdogs had no answer for Rich Hawkins, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Hawkins gave up just three hits, allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out one during his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Despite the loss, the Lincoln Saltdogs' Moises Melendez dominated the Winnipeg Goldeyes' batters, giving up zero runs and striking out five.

Alex Jones recorded his second win of the year for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. He struck out none, walked two and surrendered no hits.

Ronny Morla ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out none, and allowed five runs.
