The Normal CornBelters survive the Southern Illinois Miners rally, escape with 3-2 victory

Story by Narrative Science.

The Southern Illinois Miners (34-24) were never able to get over the hump and overcome their troubles against the Normal CornBelters (18-39) on Sunday, as the Southern Illinois Miners fell 3-2 at The Corn Crib after falling behind by two runs in the fourth inning.

The Southern Illinois Miners scored on an RBI double by Will Block in the seventh inning and an RBI double by Darian Sandford in the ninth inning. Still, the Southern Illinois Miners couldn't catch the Normal CornBelters.

The Normal CornBelters were led by Bobby Rinard's hitting. Rinard went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the fourth inning.

Tyler Lavigne kept contact to a minimum, striking out eight the Southern Illinois Miners batters. Lavigne allowed one earned run, four hits and four walks over seven innings.

A bright spot for the Southern Illinois Miners in the defeat was Daniel Calhoun, who allowed only two runs while striking out five.

Calhoun ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year.
