The Southern Illinois Miners fend off the Schaumburg Boomers' late push, hold on 5-3

The Schaumburg Boomers (8-6) were never able to get over the hump and overcome their troubles against the Southern Illinois Miners (9-5) on Saturday, as the Schaumburg Boomers fell 5-3 at Rent One Park, Marion, IL after falling behind by four runs in the sixth inning.

The Schaumburg Boomers scored on and in the seventh inning and a solo home run by Frank Pfister in the eighth inning. Despite their efforts, the Schaumburg Boomers couldn't get over the hump.

Sean Coughlin led the Southern Illinois Miners' offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored three runs and had one RBI. He homered in the second inning.

The Schaumburg Boomers couldn't get anything going as long as Thomas Campbell was on the mound. Campbell gave up just three hits, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during his four innings of work.

Pfister was solid at the plate for the Schaumburg Boomers. Pfister went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run.

Ian Campbell got the win, running his season record to 2-0. He allowed two runs over 2 1/3 innings. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered three hits.

Robbie Penny was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked two, struck out four, and allowed three runs.
