John Shelby drove in the go-ahead run to give the Gateway Grizzlies (17-19) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Gateway Grizzlies hung on to beat the Southern Illinois Miners (21-15) 6-1 on Monday.

Jon Myers singled to start the sixth. He then went from second to third on an error. Finally, Shelby came to the plate with the score tied at one, and, bringing home Myers.

Aaron Conway put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Gateway Grizzlies. He doubled in the sixth inning and homered in the seventh inning.

Chris Enourato got the win for the Gateway Grizzlies thanks to six strikeouts. Enourato allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks over seven innings.

Chad Maddox was solid at the plate for the Southern Illinois Miners. Maddox went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first inning and homered in the fourth inning.

Brian Fowler ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked four, struck out four, and allowed four runs.
