A nine-run explosion in the second inning carried the Florence Freedom (19-30) to a 10-2 win over the Normal CornBelters at The Corn Crib on Friday.
The Florence Freedom scored in the second on a two-run double by Taylor Oldham, an RBI single by Andrew Godbold, a passed ball, a three-run home run by Garrett Vail, and a two-run home run by Travis Weaver.
Vail racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Florence Freedom.
Davis Adkins struck out 10 hitters en route to the the Florence Freedom win. Adkins allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk over seven innings.
Aaron Dudley had two extra-base hits for the Normal CornBelters (23-26). He doubled in the first inning and homered in the sixth inning.
Max Homick ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked five, struck out one, and allowed five runs.
