The Las Cruces Vaqueros drop the Alpine Cowboys 4-3 behind Diaz's early double

Story by Narrative Science.

The Las Cruces Vaqueros (4-12)'s four first-inning runs built an early lead that helped bring home a 4-3 win over the Alpine Cowboys (9-8) on Monday at Apodoca Park.

The Las Cruces Vaqueros scored in the first on a two-run double by Alejandro Diaz, a sacrifice fly by Blake Johnson, and an RBI single by Michael Ormseth.

Diaz put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Las Cruces Vaqueros.

The Alpine Cowboys had no answer for Guadalupe Barrera, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Alpine Cowboys managed just one hit off of Barrera, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out six during his 2 1/3 innings of work.

Ormseth got the win, running his season record to 1-1. He allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings. Ormseth struck out five, walked none and gave up five hits.

Kevin Klaess couldn't get it done on the bump for the Alpine Cowboys, taking a loss. He lasted just six innings, walked four, struck out three, and allowed four runs.

The Las Cruces Vaqueros were sparked by Diaz and Nick Howell, who teamed up for three hits and two RBIs.
