Ben Waldrip hit two home runs to carry the Gateway Grizzlies (15-8) to a 10-6 win over the Evansville Otters (12-9) at Bosse Field in seven innings.
The Evansville Otters were ahead early but they ultimately surrendered the lead for good. The Evansville Otters were up until the fifth inning, but the Gateway Grizzlies had other plans for the final outcome, taking the lead back on a two-run home run by Waldrip.
Richard Barrett brought the heat against the Evansville Otters during his outing. Barrett held the Evansville Otters hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Shayne Houck racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Evansville Otters. He homered in the second inning and singled in the third inning.
Aaron Newcomb recorded his fourth win for the Gateway Grizzlies even though he allowed six runs over five innings. Newcomb struck out four, walked three and gave up eight hits.
Chad James ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed six runs in four innings, walked five and struck out eight.
