Extra-inning thriller favors the Washington Wild Things, 6-5 winners over the Frontier Greys

It took 10 innings, but the Washington Wild Things (21-18) managed to put away the Frontier Greys (14-24) 6-5 on Sunday at CONSOL Energy Park.

With the score tied at five in the tenth inning, Shain Stoner came to the plate and singled, bringing home Jim Vahalik.

Stewart Ijames had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He homered in the fourth inning and doubled in the seventh inning.

A bright spot for the Frontier Greys in the defeat was Tyler Vaske, who allowed only three runs while striking out five.

Jhonny Montoya improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Washington Wild Things. He struck out none, walked one and surrendered no hits.

Bryce Shafer ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed two runs.

The Washington Wild Things were sparked by Mark Samuelson and Ijames, who teamed up for four hits and three RBIs.
